When Henrietta received the keys to House of Andalus, she invited me and a close group of friends to accompany her on her first visit back. It was October 2024. None of us knew quite what to expect—but something meaningful was unfolding.
I arrived in the quiet hills near Álora, southern Spain, with a deep yearning for stillness and space to think. The land was peaceful, but not empty. The olive trees, the mountain air, the silence, it all felt like a pause from the noise of the world. It wasn’t just the beauty, it was what the place seemed to remember, a history, layered and alive.
As a Muslim woman, I’ve often felt the ache of what we’ve lost, not just geopolitically, but spiritually, institutionally, imaginatively. We are fragmented, distracted, pulled apart by nationalism, politics, and fear. Yet in this place, I felt something different. A quiet sense of optimism, excitement, and invigoration at the potential that lay ahead.
What draws me back again and again is this: the thirst for an art of diplomacy grounded in heritage. This is a new concept for me, an unfolding curiosity. Not the diplomacy of statecraft, but something more timeless: the kind that restores human dignity, reconnects us with our traditions, and shows the world the ethical, visionary spirit of Islam through our lived example.
To me, heritage is the new politics of identity and revival. It offers a way to lead not through noise or defensiveness, but through presence and rootedness. In a world fragmented by nationalism, polarisation, and loss, heritage becomes a quiet force, reclaiming narrative, restoring confidence, and reviving our collective memory. It invites us to model a way of life shaped by ethics, contribution, and spiritual depth. This isn’t nostalgia. It’s strategy. It’s soft power. And it’s necessary.
House of Andalus is not a project. It is a memory come alive. A chance to piece together what we’ve let fall apart. It’s where the seeds of The Alchemy of Leadership were planted, not just as a programme, but as a response to a deep need: for Muslim women to lead with purpose, to draw from our rich and glorious history, and to root themselves in something more enduring than algorithmic ambition.
This is more than a retreat. It’s a revival.
Welcome to the Alchemy of Leadership. Welcome to the living legacy of House of Andalus.
